The facilities in and around Exeter make it one of the best locations for flight training in the country! Exeter itself is well equipped with an I.L.S. D.M.E. approach to both ends of the main 26/08 runway. There is also an N.D.B. D.M.E. approach on runways 26 & 08. Students who train with us benefit from an excellent training aid in the form of the EX (echo X-ray) which is located 4 miles off the airfield. Another benefit of the airfield is its location to the N864 airway, saving time during training and tests given its location directly above the airport.
There is the Yeovill MATS North East of the airfield again giving our student an excellent opportunity to learn and interact with various aircraft types and both civilian and military controllers. There are four airfields used for various instrument procedures within a short flight from Exeter, they are Cardiff, Bristol, Yeovil and Plymouth. If two students are paired together, there is also an opportunity to go to the Channel Island with one student flying the outbound, and the other the return leg.
The airport is not as busy commercially as most of its neighbors so very little time is lost waiting for departures or training slot times but there is enough commercial traffic for the student to gain an insight into "slot times" as well as expedient planning and handling of a flight.
Testing for all ratings are conducted onsite again saving both time and money. The school is well serviced with both staff examiners from Bournemouth as well as local area CPL Examiners who have always been very accommodating for our students.
With over 50 000 hours amassed between our 3 full time and two part time instructors, students not only benefit from a huge pool of experience but also from one to one tuition.
For
those who require aviation medicals, appointments can be made with Dr Adrian Renouf directly
through AFT and his office is onsite at Exeter airport.
The surrounding countryside and environment are well known to be pleasant and enjoyable, while
the hospitality and comfort of the local Bed & Breakfasts are
legendary. There are numerous good pubs all around the area for an evening meal and relaxation,
while the city of Exeter with its lovely Cathedral and good shopping and restaurants is only 20
minutes away. For the sports minded, not too far away at Woodbury is Nigel Mansell's Golf and
Country Club.
