The most important part of any school is the quality and experience of the instructors.

The instructional staff is headed by:
CFI Brian Marindin, an ex-Navy pilot who in 1955 started flying single seat jets. After serving as an Air Warfare Instructor, Brian then spent 17 years with Cathay Pacific Airways progressing to Check and Training Captain on Tristar L1011. Brian has logged over 4,000 light aircraft hours instructional time. Total hours 19,000+

Ted Welstead served in the Royal Air Force between 1962 and 1972 flying Vampire's, Jet Provosts and VC10's becoming an A2 Flight Instructor. In 1973 he joined BOAC/BA flying VC10's and DC10's. Ted has been an unrestricted Flight Instructor since 1992 and has instructed for the ab-anitio 509 course, the approved LST/IR and the Flight Instructor course. He is also a CAA  Authorized CPL Examiner. Total hours 14,000+

Tony Penfold joined the Royal Air Force in 1965, trained as a Flight Instructor in 1968, becoming an A2 QFI on Jet Provosts and Harriers. After flying Hunters with Flight Re-fueling at Yeovilton, Tony then joined Airways Flight Training as an instructor concentrating on the CPL Skill Test. Total hours 10,500+

Terry Earl served with the Royal Air Force on Nimrods. He has management experience of ab-initio training with Cathay Pacific and British Aerospace and has instructed at all levels including MCC courses. Total hours 12,000+

Smudge Smith is a hugely experienced ex-Royal Air Force pilot as an A2 QFI basic and advanced. Previously a Captain with British Airways and then a Captain with Virgin Atlantic, Smudge progressed to a Type Rating Examiner, Instrument Rating Examiner and Training Captain on Boeing 747 aircraft. Total hours 20,000+

Gary Moore is currently an Airbus Captain with Virgin Atlantic and has 20 years instructing experience. Gary helps us out on a part time basis. Total hours 10,000+

The simulator is operated by our valuable new arrival Howard Clayton. He looks after our PPL students and has 24 years experience as an Instructor and Examiner.
